This blog started way back in 2011 when I was feverishly working on my doctoral-level dissertation proposal. Many hours spent in the library, writing and editing took a toll on me, and that is when I truly fell in love with blogs, in general. Back then the title was merely Brains & Beauty to show homage to my time as Miss Wisconsin USA and my educational background.
A few months later, Coach and I got engaged (read about that story here); therefore, the current name of the blog was birthed!
I was born in Madison, WI, but raised in Tampa, FL as an only child. I was a competitive dancer, spending many hours at the dance studio perfecting the art, and then transitioned to pageantry once I entered high school. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida (Go Gators), and then went on to earn my master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (On Wisconsin) in Educational Psychology. Today, I am a practicing school psychologist and part-time educational consultant with a passion for fitness and health. My wonderful husband, whom I affectionately refer to as ‘Coach’ or ‘Coach Kemp,’ and I are proud parents to our Pomeranian-mix dog, Prince, and first baby girl, Violet.
My blog chronicles our lives as a coaching family, my ever-lasting passion for healthy living and working out, as well as my journey becoming a first-time mommy!
